2019 Contest Series Wrap-up and Results

KSUSA added two more contests, in addition to the annual KSUSA US Kneeboard Titles, to provide more opportunities for competition and qualification for the 2020 World Titles US Team.  At the end of the contest series, the top competitors were offered airfare to New Zealand, courtesy of a generous sponsor.

Wildcoast 16th Annual Dempsey Holder Ocean Festival in Imperial Beach – October 2019

Once again Wildcoast generously opened up their contest to the Kneeboard community.  This year allowing four full heats, a semi, and a final.  Unfortunately, the contest was delayed and rescheduled for the same weekend as the third contest of the series. We were able to work with the organizers and schedule the kneeboard heats for Wildcoast on Saturday and WSA on Sunday.  Thanks to the entire team for showing up and making it a great weekend of surfing and camaraderie.  Special thanks to Milon Wyle and his wife for making the trip out from Florida the competition and tune up for the World Titles.

Contest conditions were small and challenging, but pretty clean and contestable through out the day.  At the end of the day, the winner was Chris Beresford making the best of the challenging conditions, edging out his brother Jack.  Shaun Murphy’s and Eric Peterson’s consistently good surfing gave the Beresford brothers a run for their money.

WSA Surf Contest in Ocean Beach San Diego – October 2019

We were able to partner with the WSA to add a third event to the contest series by adding kneeboard heats to their scheduled event in OB.  They moved the kneeboard heats to Sunday to accommodate our conflict with the Dempsey.

Once again, the contest conditions were small and challenging.  The early heats showed a little more size then the previous day with clean conditions, but inconsistent.  Timing and wave selection was key.  This time Jack Beresford took the win with Chris in the runner up position.  Shaun Murphy’s and Eric Peterson’s continued their strong performance making the finals once again.

World Titles Team Ranking and Sponsored Team Member Selection

We completed our 2019 three contest series to determine the recipients of Travel Assistance for the World Titles. Based on their performance in the 2019 KSUSA US Titles, the Wildcoast Dempsey Holder Ocean Festival, and the WSA OB-Avalanche contest they have earned $1000 in Travel Assistance to attend the 2020 World Kneeboard Surfing Titles in Dunedin, New Zealand as part of Team KSUSA.

This is made possible by a significant donation from someone who loves kneeboarding and believes that the US could challenge for the Open World Title, as well as age group and Team titles if our top surfers attended. We are stoked and humbled to have this opportunity to now have our strongest team ever at the World Titles.

Here are the recipients and final placings based upon our three 2019 contest series:

  1. Jack Beresford 5720 points
  2. Chris Beresford 5180
  3. Shaun Murphy 4640

  5. Tom Linn (declined assistance). 3496
