Huntington Beach, CA (February 17, 2023) – San Clemente’s Kevin Skvarna made history by winning both the Open and Pro Junior divisions at the 2023 Kneeboard Surfing USA Titles and Kneeboard Festival. At 24, Skvarna is also the youngest person to win the event, which dates back to 2003.
Meanwhile, Rachel Lord impressed many in her first ever kneeboard contest and coming out ahead of four other women competing for the US title.
The event was held February 17 on the south side of Huntington Beach pier in generally clean shoulder-high surf. It was Skvarna’s first Open division win and Lord’s first Women’s division win.
One of the premier kneeboarding events in the world, the Kneeboard Surfing USA Titles attracted a field of 60 competitors from as far away as South Africa, Australia, and Puerto Rico. In addition to the Open and Women’s divisions, kneeboarders completed in Junior’s, and Pro Junior’s, AAA, and AA divisions.
Over 20 years, KSUSA has hosted 15 US Titles and one world title event at four different venues (Pleasure Point, Steamer Lane, Oceanside and Huntington Beach). KSUSA has crowned eight Open division champions and five Women’s division champions.
The 2023 and 2024 US Kneeboard Titles will be used as a qualifying event for the 2024 or 2025 Kneeboard Surfing World Titles in South Africa. Results of the 2023 and 2024 US Kneeboard Titles will be used to rank US Team Members competing in the World Titles.
